Kristen's Story

Kristen's love of interiors started long before Hummingbird. Back in high school, she watched her mom and two close friends open their own interior design studio in Sidney, Ohio. Seeing her mom build beautiful rooms with confidence and care showed Kristen early on what design could do for a family, a home, and the way people feel inside it.

These days, Kristen brings that same instinct to every project. She runs Built by Design with her husband, Mike, a design-build firm known for high-end remodels throughout Johnson County and the Kansas City metro. After helping design hundreds of homes, she saw how much the right proportions, finishes, furnishings, and final details could change the way a room feels, functions, and photographs.

That's where Hummingbird came from. Kristen wanted to bring a top-tier designer's eye to home staging after years of creating spaces from the ground up. She helps sellers show a home at its very best, with work that's practical, beautiful, and deeply intentional because buyers connect faster when a home feels cared for, complete, and easy to imagine as their own.

That love of home runs through her own family, too. As a mom of two, Kristen's loved helping her own kids shape rooms that reflect their personalities. It's all connected: the childhood rooms, the family remodels, the polished listing day, and the quiet moment when a buyer walks in and sees possibility.
